As with many
Tarifa hotels, the atmosphere
here in Hotel Dos Mares Tarifa is very laid back. But in the case
of this hotel, it could also be due to the fact that it sits, just
shy of the mystical Pillars of Hercules, where the Atlantic and
Mediterranean meet.
Located on an endless unspoilt beach, nearly every corner of this
hotel captures the untamed view; the best of which can be seen from
the hotel cafe, where drinks and snacks can be eaten in it’s
comfortable but quirky lounge of cushions, little chairs - and fire
place, for visits outside the summer season.
Sip your drink in the evening in front of a cosy fire
Being so close to the beach, there is the risk that you’ll get a blast of one of the infamous winds that this unique geographic location can experience. But the beach bar, restaurant and pool is sheltered and warm.
Dine in the restaurant with views to the sea
The bar here serves a basic menu - in contrast to the hotel’s downstairs restaurant where the menu interestingly reflects it’s situation. Africa meets Europe.
The beach bar serving fresh salads
The hotel has a fully equipped gym, tennis, volleyball, stables and kite/windsurfing all within its footprint and strangely it has two ostriches, other assorted animals and birds pecking around in the pine forest at the back. What they’re doing there is anyones guess! But they sort of symbolise this hotel - unexpected.
Go for a horse ride along the beach
The service is familiar rather than of a stand-off nature. It can at times be a bit dusty, but perhaps that’s the sweet reminder of being right on the beach. Shabby Chic some may say!

Mares’ eclectic Moroccan Asian decor has two accommodation options.
The hotel itself or in one of it’s bungalows.
The hotel’s ground floor has little in the way of views, but these
rooms are balanced by being relaxing and comfortable. As you might expect
on the first floor (no lift) the sea’s meditative views are yours.
